This Black History Month, we honor Richard B. Spikes, an innovative inventor whose work helped advance automobile safety and technology. Spikes received a patent for improving the automatic gear shift device based on automatic transmission systems and also invented the automatic safety brake, contributions that helped shape modern driving safety.
