From sunrise to sunset, Maryland farmers work hard to provide the food, materials, and resources that feed us. Today, and every day, we’re grateful for what the farming community brings to our state.
At Maryland Auto, we’re proud to support Maryland’s farms by helping protect one of their most essential tools, their vehicles.
Coverage That Supports Maryland Farmers
Farm operations come in all shapes and sizes, and so do the vehicles. That’s why Maryland Auto offers coverage options for:
- Vehicles with a valid Maryland “farm tag”
- Other vehicles owned as part of the farming operation, as long as they are registered and tagged in Maryland and meet standard eligibility criteria
Farm tags are designed for vehicles used exclusively by the farmer on their own operation. They cannot be used to haul products for another farm. To qualify, farmers need to show proof of farming status, usually through the first page of a Schedule F tax form or similar approved documentation. These vehicles can operate on Maryland’s public roads but are intended primarily for farm-related activities.
What Maryland Auto Can’t Cover
We aren’t able to provide coverage for equipment or vehicles that don’t have a valid Maryland farm tag or another valid Maryland registration.
When Commercial Coverage May Be Needed
If a farm is structured as a legal business and uses its tagged vehicles for commercial purposes, commercial auto coverage may be the right fit. In many cases, this could include vehicles like dump trucks or equipment trailers, but farming businesses can have a wide range of unique needs.
It’s always best for farmers to contact their insurance agent to make sure they’re getting the appropriate coverage based on how their vehicles are used.
Maryland Auto Insurance would like to thank farmers for all you do to keep Maryland growing. If you need help finding the right coverage for farm vehicles, contact a local agent to discuss your options.
