FAQ

Maryland Auto sells our policies through a network of producer partners (agents) across the state. These agents provide service to our policyholders. Even though you are able to complete the purchase process online, an authorized Maryland Auto provider (or “producer”) is assigned to your policy and will be your point of contact for service going forward. If you need to add or remove a vehicle, adjust coverages, or make other changes during your policy term, your producer will assist you. Your producer will also assist you with your policy renewal when you are approaching the end of your policy term next year.
Maryland Auto provides coverage for vehicles used in ridesharing services under our commercial auto policy. At this time, our online quoting system cannot accommodate commercial auto quote requests. However, the Maryland Auto provider listed can assist you in purchasing your commercial coverage with Maryland Auto.
Maryland Auto Insurance was created by the Maryland legislature to make insurance available to drivers who have been turned down or cancelled by other carriers. We help drivers get the coverage they need to keep moving forward—in their cars and in life. Our policies are sold through a network of more than 1,400 agents located throughout the state. We are a one-of-a-kind organization; no other state has a similar entity.
No. In fact, 60 percent of the drivers we insure have “clean” driving records with one or no points on their licenses. While we do provide coverage for drivers who have been cancelled or denied based on their driving record, many of our policyholders have been cancelled or denied because of lapses in coverage or credit issues. Whatever the reason, we provide a transitional solution to keep you covered until you are eligible for the standard market.
No. Maryland Auto does not receive funding from the state’s general fund. Maryland Auto is funded wholly by the premiums paid by our policyholders and our investment portfolio.
