Maryland Auto Insurance seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Investigator. This position is located at Maryland Auto’s Baltimore office, but spends a significant period of time in the field conducting investigations.

Duties to include

  • Functioning as a field investigator for the SIU team
  • Supporting the activity of both the Claims and Underwriting departments
  • Documenting investigative activity during the course of an investigation and submitting a final written report to the manager at the conclusion
  • Providing testimony in both civil and criminal cases as an investigator or expert witness

This position requires interaction with various public agencies, insurance company personnel, and law enforcement agencies. Investigators may also be called upon to provide training in detecting and deterring fraud and will perform other duties as required.

Requirements

Requires a BS/BA or four years of experience in auto claims handling, law enforcement, investigations, or related work. The ideal candidate will have a strong investigative background with prior experience in fraud detection. Claims experience handling PD, BI, PIP, UM investigations and familiarity with the Unfair Claims Practices Act is desirable. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be provided with a company car to conduct investigations statewide. A monthly commuting fee is charged, based on the normal commute mileage from the investigator’s home to our Baltimore office. This position will report to a Claims Supervisor and will not supervise other employees. This is a flextime position scheduled for 40 hours each week. Duties of the position may require work during evenings, weekends, or holidays. Additional hours worked, with supervisory approval, will be compensated as compensatory time.
